<body>DEP is delighted to be representing one of the most exciting young talents in European Dance.
The Thomas Noone Dance Company is based in Barcelona, Spain with a mission to bring physical, exciting and demanding dance to a wide audience. Since its beginnings in 2001 it has investigated a free
style requiring a strong technical ability from its members and researching the manner in which to
transmit emotion from the stage to the spectator using the body as its medium.
The company has created both large scale productions such as Mur and more
intimate shows such as the duos F&#250;til or Four. TNDC has made one of its
missions to commission new music from contemporary composers both from Spain and abroad.

Following recent successful performances at the Southbank Centre in London, DEP will be working with TND to put together a UK tour for 2010 as part of a longer term strategy to bring the company to the UK and Ireland on a regular basis.</body>

<body>This project aimed to involve a group of people of all ages and abilities to take part in a high quality mass participation dance movement experience, and excite them about the forthcoming Olympic Games. We recruited dancers of all walks of life to join us for a half day event on Centenary Square in Bradford. We developed a 2 minute dance routine based on 12 sports (diving, swimming, running) with leading contemporary choreographer Luca Silvestrini, which was distributed via the internet, TV, Radio and other media for people to learn before the day.

Participants registered before the event as well as on the day to gain &#8216;their number&#8217; &#8211; thereby becoming part of &#8216;Yorkshire 2,012&#8217;.

The day was compared by Yorkshire celebrity radio DJ Dan O'Conell and the dance routine included a mass warm up, mass rehearsal and mass performance of the dance. Significant sports personalities from the Yorkshire Olympic team were present on the day and interviewed on stage, including Olympic Bronze medal winner Jill Adkins as well as a number of athletes training for 2012.

DEP ARTS LTD produced the whole event and we were responsible for ensuring that all elements came together in advance of the day including press and media, recruitment and also overseeing the event and stage management on the actual day. DEP ARTS LTD also provided all event management and registration staff for the event as well as sourcing all athletes and MC for the event.

<body>Exile and Death is inspired by the life and work of the 17th century master painter, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. The idea of creating a full-length work (approximately 75 minutes) stems from short pieces that Darshan has choreographed for Verve, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance group in Leeds and New World School of the Arts in Miami Florida over the last year. Following Darshan&#8217;s implementation of these works, this more substantial production and tour is an opportunity to mark the 400th anniversary of Caravaggio&#8217;s death and to bring the work to a higher level by working with professional dancers.
The work will &#8216;physicalise&#8217; Caravaggio&#8217;s intense and light-infused imagery for the wider dance audience.

The Style and Collaborators
The format Darshan uses for the piece will include multi-platform visuals and live music. He will be collaborating with composer/performer Barry Guy, graphic designers Kit Monkman and Tom Wexler (KMA) and lighting designer John B. Read. Darshan has a long-standing working relationship with all four of these talented and experienced artists.

The stage setting for Exile and Death is simple and bare, and dramatic lighting is used to create the atmosphere and emulate Caravaggio&#8217;s stylistic use of chiaroscuro. A subtle combination of film, photography and graphics by KMA is projected onto translucent gauze allowing the characters to be &#8216;painted into&#8217; locations and scenes. Historians have claimed that Caravaggio's dramatic chiaroscuro style of light and shadow was based on &quot;a whole set of techniques that are the basis of photography&quot;. He worked in an early version of a darkroom, illuminating his subjects through a hole in the ceiling and projecting the image onto a canvas using a lens and a mirror. Darshan and KMA will emulate these methods to inform the style and design for the projections. Darshan and KMA are giving further consideration towards exploration of digital media, with a view to sharing the performance across various platforms

DEP ARTS LTD will be putting the UK tour together for this project which will take place during spring 2011 with dates already confirmed at Sadlers Wells, The Lowry and Nottingham Playhouse.

We will also be looking to put together an international tour of the project for 2012 including dates in North America and Canada.
